Falling in Love with the Stash All Over Again
I have to confess… I’ve been holding onto a braid of fiber from a spinning box for quite some time. Not because I didn’t love it — quite the opposite. I adored it.
The colors were stunning. Bold. Vibrant. Almost too beautiful.
It’s a luxurious blend of Merino, kid mohair, and real cashmere — soft beyond words and absolutely glowing with color. Every time I would see it in my stash, I’d smile… and then gently put it back. Why? Because I wasn’t sure how I would wear something with that much color. I didn’t know what it wanted to become.
So it sat.
Until recently, when I decided to stop overthinking it and just spin it up. I told myself I would figure out what to make later.
And oh my goodness… I am so glad I did.
I’m about halfway through spinning it, and I am genuinely surprised. It spins beautifully — smooth, dreamy, and balanced — but what’s really blowing me away is how the colors are coming together. They’re blending and flowing in a way I never expected. What once felt “too much” now feels vibrant and joyful.
Now I can hardly wait until I have a little more time to finish it. I already have ideas swirling — maybe a cozy cowl to let the colors shine, or perhaps fingerless mitts to add a pop of happy to chilly days.
This little project has been such a good reminder: we have stash for a reason. We fell in love with those fibers and yarns. Maybe it was the color. Maybe it was the feel. Maybe it was pure inspiration in the moment. But something captured our hearts.
Sometimes all we have to do is face the hesitation, start the project, and trust the process. More often than not, we rediscover exactly why we loved it in the first place — and sometimes we even end up heading in a direction we never expected.
